Swan Feather, Colmar, France (1996)

I was traveling through the Alsace, and in the town of Colmar I walked across one of the quaint stone bridges over a network of small canals.  There were swans in the water, and I looked down and saw this lovely feather set against the pattern of leaves.  There was a slow current drifting towards me and I just had time to change to a longer lens and shoot one quick picture before the feather disappeared under the bridge.  I ran to the other side and waited some time but I never saw it come out.  The light was completely different there anyway and it wouldn’t have been a picture.  The sky was overcast and what appears to be the feather’s shadow is actually a reflection.
